What can’t I live without?

This question has been lingering in my head for a while now.

It started with Eddy sharing about his passion for music, and things like he wouldn’t have pursued music for money but for the joy and pleasure that music gives him.

The other day I watched Itzhak Perlman’s masterclass, in which he shared about things to consider when deciding to pursue music as a career. One of the points he mentioned is “Can you not live without music?”. And that triggers me. A lot.

Then, what can’t I live without?

Nutrition? Not really. Haha, still what I enjoy doing but tbh not that much.

Music? No. I mean, yeah, I love music. But to the extent that I could practice all day every day, and go to music school - hmm I would have my eyebrows frowned upon that.

Then what do I really love doing? What can’t I live without?

Learning.

The fact that I enjoyed nutrition or music was because I enjoyed the learning experience accompanied by them, rather than nutrition or music themselves. Oh gosh, how much I love learning. I just feel like humankind has unearthed so much about the lives around us. And there is so much for me to learn and explore. Sounds quirky, I know, but I love the feeling of puzzled. And isn’t it thrilling to finally understand what you have always been told to do without really knowing why? Just like the frying fish story.

Learning is something that I enjoy doing and I can do well. I guess. haha.

Well, I’m still young now. Why not try and fail? Still don’t know what I will try first. But at least I have figured out what I love doing now.

And side note: I’m soooooooo excited for the Singapore exchange next yearrrrrrr. I mean I can finally be a full-time student after such a long time now, not having to worry about anything and just study. Can’t help feeling excited thinking about that.
